The name was then changed to The Army of The Repubic of Indonesia or TRI on January 23, 1946.
The TNI name was used on June 3, 1947. However, it was again changed to The Armed Forces of The Republic of Indonesia or ‘ABRI‘, when the national police and the military merged.

The main tasks of theTNI involve upholding the sovereignty of the state and defending the territory of Indonesia based on the country's philosophical foundation of Pancasila and The 1945 Constitution.
