Jakarta, Indonesia - Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Tuesday (21/03) welcomed visiting Papua New Guinea Foreign Minister, Justin Tkatchenko both ministers met for the third Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) in Jakarta to discuss the bilateral relationships.
Minister Retno Marsudi welcomed the ratification of two bilateral agreements among the two nations. The ratifications cover the implementation of visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders and basic agreement on border arrangements.
"At the JMC, we exchanged views on the progress of bilateral relations. I welcome PNG's ratification on two bilateral agreements, there are, the agreement on the implementation of visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders, and the basic agreement on border arrangements," Retno said.
Both countries also agreed to start negotiations on a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), Minister Retno added that Indonesia is committed to preparing a joint feasibility study to combine the views of the two countries.
Indonesia is also committed to strengthening collaboration in the education sector by offering scholarships to PNG students. In the infrastructure sector Indonesia will continue to revitalize public and health facilities at Vanimo and Port Moresby. Indonesia also invites Papua New Guinea to participate in the Indo-Pacific infrastructure forum.
